City of Odessa Board of Aldermen

The City of Odessa (Missouri) Mayor and Board of Aldermen convene on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of every month at 6:00 pm. These meetings take place at the Dyer Park Community Building located at 601 W. Main, Odessa, MO. 

Public Comment Request: Anyone wishing to address the Board must complete a  Public Comment Request Form. The form can be submitted via email to the City Clerk or dropped off at City Hall, located at 228 S Second Street, by 4:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting; otherwise, the speaker will need to complete a paper form at the meeting and submit it to the City Clerk before the meeting begins. Any documents you wish to provide to the Aldermen during Public Comment must be submitted to the Clerk with the Public Comment Request form. At the beginning of the “Public Comment” period, the Mayor will call the speaker's name. The speaker will come to the podium and state their full name and address. The speaker will have 3 minutes to speak, and all comments should be directed to the Mayor and the Board.

Board of Aldermen Rules and Meeting Procedures: The Board of Aldermen for the City of Odessa has formally adopted a set of rules and procedures to guide the conduct of its public meetings. These rules are designed to ensure that meetings are conducted in a fair, orderly, and transparent manner, in accordance with Missouri state law and best practices for local government.  A full copy of the Board-Approved Rules of Meeting Procedures is available at City Hall and may also be viewed here.

The Mayor is elected in even-numbered years to serve a two-year term. To qualify as a candidate, an individual must be a registered voter, at least 25 years of age, and must have resided within the city limits for at least one year prior to the election. The Mayor presides over meetings of the Board of Aldermen but votes only in the event of a tie. Additionally, the Mayor is automatically a member of all boards within the city.

Board of Aldermen

The City of Odessa is divided into three wards, with each ward represented by two elected aldermen. Aldermanic terms are staggered, with one alderman from each ward elected annually during the April municipal election.

To be eligible for election, a candidate must be a registered voter, at least 18 years of age, a resident of the City for at least one year prior to the election, and must reside within the ward they seek to represent.
